Espressofabriek Amsterdam

Last week we started our search for the best coffee roasters in Amsterdam, because we decided it was time to enjoy a good cup at home or at our Atelier! So, we grabbed our bikes and planned a route to go to a few places. First stop, Espressofabriek.

Espressofabriek is one of the best known specialty coffee roasters in the city, and they have two locations which are quite popular among the coffee lovers. We went at the one located at Westergasfabriek, because it is our favourite! The area is a former gasworks factory in Amsterdam, turned into a cultural park, now a cultural and artistic hotspot that attracts mainly a creative and young crowd.

What are your favourite spots for fresh roasted coffee in Amsterdam? If you have any tips, I’d love to hear all about them in the comments!

I really love that fact that the cafe is located in a repurposed space. This somehow gives the place an authentic and cozy feel, but without being too much! The space is open with a lot of natural light, there is a big table in the middle and several others around, and of course you can sit at the bar or by the windows. Upstairs it’s the roastery, which can be visited if you’re curious to see some green coffee beans or a little bit more about the process.

Because we usually enjoy the good coffee that they serve in on the spot, we were very curious to try their filter light-roast for at home! We picked up a bag of fresh roasted Nicaragua (Santa Maria de Guadalupe) and we haven’t been disappointed, it is a very nice coffee, with a bit of acidity and touch of sweetness, which we really enjoy every day and we’ll definitely go back for more! (we brew it using a V60).

The big table in the middle gives the place a friendly and casual ambience. It’s a great place and it could work as an open office, if you want to get some work done!
